Now we have a lot of women in movies. Why not, following Ocean’s Eight Girlfriends, release Terminator-Girl, 300 Spartan Girls… So now people are responding to the rental of films where the main character is a woman. Every month there are more such films. And it is not even about dramas, melodramas and comedies that are usual for the ‘female kingdom’, but about actions, blockbusters and fantasy, where previously only men were endowed with superpowers, remarkable strength, prudence and endurance.
Why is this happening? There are three main reasons for this.
The first reason is that cinema is a reflection of the world in which we live, and since women increasingly occupy high positions, they will increasingly be in strong roles in popular movies, even in non-female genres — action films.
The second reason. Women who create movies have begun to vigorously defend their rights and demand the same fees as men.
And the third factor. For many years, marketers have fixed the same trend. A girl takes a decision in choosing to watch a movie, so light genres such as comedies and melodramas are popular. Moreover, if there is no melodramatic line in the blockbuster, it fails.
