women in the 20th century

Perhaps it’s impossible to describe in a few words what were the women in the 20th century. First of all, they were different! In the 20th century women’s images swiftly changed, as did the world around them.

As a result of the First World War, four empires ceased to exist, and the geopolitical map of the world acquired completely new outlines. In science and technology there were several serious breakthroughs that had a huge impact on the development of modern civilization: scientists discovered superconductivity, the theory of relativity and vitamins, invented a parachute, machine gun, tank, launched the first aircraft carrier and space ships. Just imagine how society fevered in that era!

Naturally, the ladies could not stay away, as before. Looking for the only image that would correspond to the spirit of the time, women tried on polar different roles: either a shining angel or a teenager with a short haircut, or an oriental beauty, or a Greek goddess, or a strict lady, or a sister of mercy.

The integrity of the image, as in the previous century, just did not work. The woman was literally torn between the desire to be emancipated and relaxed and the desire to remain carefree and airy, slightly mysterious.
